Our School

‘We’re all part of the Whatton family. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what you believe, everyone is welcome here.’ OFSTED 2019

Long Whatton C. E. Primary is a small school in a rural village in North West Leicestershire 5 miles from Loughborough. It also has a Community Centre attached which provides excellent facilities for a village of approximately 1500 inhabitants.

The School was built in 1847 and the Community Centre was attached and opened in 1973. The village has a small shop/post office, three churches and two pubs and a thriving organic farm. The School and Community Centre are at the centre of village life.

The school generally has around 100 children on role. Pupils start school in September after their 4th birthday and transfer at the end of Year 6, to a range of secondary schools including: Castle Donington Community College, Iveshead college and Loughborough Grammar. Most children live in the village and attend the village playgroup before starting school, but around 40% of our children come from out of the village. The school has high standards of achievement and provides good facilities. We are part of a group of six schools, known as the BeSKiLD Trust.

Long Whatton is a very happy school with a strong Christian ethos and very supportive parents. Attendance at school is excellent, and according to our latest pupil survey, our children really enjoy coming each day. We have a huge playing field, two playgrounds, a trim trail, a tyre park that provide an excellent environment for learning play.
